Aussie Curves: Picnic

This week in Aussie Curves, our challenge theme is picnic. Before we get started, I have a confession. The photo below accurately sums up how I feel about picnics. The only nice thing I could think of about picnics was reading a book, but you know I could do that inside in the comfort of my bed. Picnics for me mean flies, mossies, ants, food that needs to be eaten on laps, etc. Yep, I'm an indoors person. Give me a good book to read inside, or a good gaming session any day.

Ok, now I've got that off my chest, here's my outfit. Picnic made me think of my tablecloth dress, that I wore for red week in this post. I needed to mix it up for a new post, so I decided to wear it as a skirt, paired with my Sweet Tooth shirt. My top is from this Etsy shop which has lots of other cute shirts and shoes too. I tucked the skirt under a bit to match the higher waist of the dress (and of me!). Usually it's longer, as you can see in my previous post here.

I wore my comfy red shoes, which seemed a sensible choice for a picnic. Lots of ants and grass and stuff to get in your sandal type shoes, I would think.

My accessories included my strawberry clips from The Olive Tree Markets, earrings from a random market, and a bunch of bracelets- pearl ones were 50c from an op shop, red one is part of a set from Yours Clothing. Apologies for puffy eyes, I was staying at my parents for these photos and they are hayfever central.

Aussie Curves: Stripes

I was looking forward to this week's Aussie Curves challenge. Stripes is an easy one for me- the problem was deciding on which outfit to put together. I finally decided on a maxi dress I had picked up from Big W.

It's super comfy, the straps are wide enough to hide bra straps, and it's just the right length. I still think Big W need to work on their sizing, this dress was snug at a size 26.

I decided on red accessories, including this fab red handbag I picked up from the op shop for $3.
I'm wearing my pretty wedge shoes I purchased from Big W. Still practising wearing them around the house.

Jewelry was picked up from markets and gifted from friends.

Aussie Curves: Sparkle

This week's challenge was Sparkle, and immediately I knew I'd have some problems, as I don't own any sparkly clothes. I did own sparkly jewelry, so I decided to wear a plain black dress and let my jewelry sparkle instead. Bahahaha! *slaps knee, wipes tears* No seriously, I didn't wear black, but I did need a simple dress that didn't busy up my look. I went with a turquoise sun-dress from Asos Curve (once again from the sales section) and pulled together some sparkly jewelry.

Earrings from Diva, necklace was an old brooch that belonged to my Granny, bracelet from Yours Clothing, shoes from Big W (there's a little hint of sparkle in the straps there) and hair slide I don't remember. I also painted my nails with Opi Meep Meep Meep (from the Muppet Collection) they have glitter in the polish. Bit hard to get a good photo of it though.

The dress is comfy stretch cotton, and a little shorter than I'm comfortable with. The straps need to be adjusted as they were a little long (my usual problem, when it fits in the hips it's too big up top).

No I'm not pulling a hip hop move, I'm trying to show you all my sparklies in one place.

Aussie Curves: Celebrity Copycat

This week's Aussie Curves challenge is celebrity copycat, and it took me a while to find the gorgeous Zooey Deschanel. I don't follow celebrities or care what they're wearing usually. General celebrity google searches brought up bland, boring celebrities, doing celebrity style quizzes helped a little, then I thought to try searching for colourful celebrity style. Eventually I came up with the lovely Zooey. She gives off a quirky vintage/retro vibe. She wears a lot of dresses, she likes bows and fun prints and blue. This was something I could work with.

Using the fun print/bow/blue combo, I chose to wear my heart-print dress from Asos Curve, and over the top an Asos Curve blue coat that looks similar to the one Zooey is wearing. This photo shoot is the second try. On Saturday I got all dressed up, went out to take photos and it was raining. I took some under the verandah but when I checked them later I noticed the clothes were all rumpled. So for the first time in 3 years, I had to iron my clothes. Hope you're appreciating this Aussie Curves! Take two, a sunny Sunday, I managed to find a somewhat shady spot and tried again.

I'm wearing the Asos Curve heart print dress backwards. I like the v-neck at the back of the dress better than the round neck. I like the tie belt but it never sits where I want it to. My black Mary-Janes seemed like the best Zooey-type choice to pair with the dress since I don't own heels.

I bought the Asos Curve coat on clearance and it's been a great winter essential. I love the colour and the style. I bought a 26 so it fits over all my layers, and it's a wool blend so I stay toasty. My hands stay warm too in the pockets. Red and blue are one of my favourite combos, I'm glad I was able to show off this dress which I've had a while but not photographed. Thanks Zooey! I'm channeling the out and about celebrity style there with the sunglasses and coat, hee hee.

You may have noticed that my hair is way shorter than it used to be! I had it cut the shortest I'd ever gone and I love it. Not the best style to copy Zooey with, but it's easy to care for! I'm wearing my favourite hair bow (I think Zooey would approve) and some earrings I thrifted from the op shop.

I tried to do some eye make-up but I'm just not good at that stuff. Eyeliner won't even go on- I run it along and nothing happens. You wouldn't know but I'm wearing mascara and my usual red lipstick (which fits in well with Zooey's style).

Ok enough papparazzi, I'm off!
